Those members who play competitive golf will know that our Course Handicap (CH) is reduced to 95% in singles strokeplay and stableford competitions, so that the actual Playing Handicap (PH) in these comps is slightly lower. That has been the case since the new handicap system came in back in 2020.
For this summer Scottish Golf are giving Clubs the option to adjust the PH proportion. In our Club competitions from April the PH restriction could stay at 95% as before, or could change to 85 or 90%, which would give a lower PH. Or there could be no restriction at all, which would leave the PH the same as the CH. Our Handicapping and Competitions Committee will be discussing this in March, and will decide in the next few weeks which will work best for Winterfield competitions, in time for the April Medals.
As a Committee, we would like to hear your views on this, so that we can take all opinions into account when we decide. To help you think about this, you can read the guidance produced by Scottish Golf from the links below. You’ll see that this can also apply to Fourball comps, but for us it is the Singles comps which matter. This does not affect Handicaps in Matchplay, where the PH must remain at 100% of the CH.
Please email Willie Cockburn, Comps and Handicap Convenor, directly on william.ts.cockburn@btinternet.com if possible by 10 March . The Committee will read all comments and take them all into account when deciding how best to proceed. We will let you know the outcome on this important decision before entries open for the April Medals. All views are welcome.
